During 1968-1969 I served as a US Army photographer covering the war and other military activities in The Republic of South Vietnam. My unit, Department of the Army Photo Office (DASPO), was a small detachment headquartered at Fort Shafter, Hawaii. We had three photo teams covering US military operations in South Vietnam, South Korea and Thailand. Our photographers rotated between Hawaii and those three locations on three month temporary duty assignments. Besides still photography, we also provided audio and motion picture coverage to our Army bosses back at the Pentagon.
